Your scalp might look swollen and bleed for a few days. Additionally, your natural and grafted hair may look uneven. Due to all such reasons, you might want to cover your scalp with a hat. However, you cannot wear a cap after a hair transplant.
You cannot wear a cap for at least a week after a hair transplant surgery.
Follicles from the healthy donor area are grafted to the recipient area during a hair transplant surgery. The grafted hair transplants require around 7-10 days after the surgery to get a firm hold on the scalp and start growing naturally. This period is called the post-surgery recovery period.
During the recovery period, the chances of damaging the grafted hair follicles are high. In fact, even minor tension can lead to damage or grafts falling off. Hence, it is advised not to touch or wash your hair post-surgery.
With that being said, if you wear a cap after a hair transplant surgery, it can lead to tension and ultimately damage the hair follicles. This can impair the hair transplant surgery results. Hence, you cannot wear a cap after a hair transplant surgery. However, you can wear a loose cap after at least a week if you want to.
Wearing a loose cap after 7-10 days is advised.
After a week or two, the hair grafts would have got hold of the scalp and may not fall off easily. Hence, wearing a loose cap can prove helpful instead of damaging during this time. After your surgery, you also need to protect your hair from sunlight, extreme wind, and dirt, as all these can cause damage. Wearing a loose cap can get you the much-needed protection.
All in all, you cannot wear a cap right after a hair transplant. But you can wear a loose hat after 7-10 days of the surgery.
